How to style a beret in a cool and elegant way
January 18, 2018
What is the most French thing you can think of? The beret of course! How come the French can get away with almost anything and look so effortlessly stylish?
The key to that, in my opinion, is dressing all french. No, you don’t need to wear stripes, I mean have a good look at french styling. They wear timeless and classy pieces like well fitted or oversized blazers, shoes they can actually walk gracefully in and don’t overdo it when it comes to accessories.
French style-icons invest in quality pieces that will last a lifetime. I’m talking real leather shoes, well made and fitted coats and trousers and classy jewelry. They chose one part of the outfit to make a bold impression and keep the rest deceitfully simple. For instance, they let a statement jacket steal the show and pair it with evergreen pieces and toned down jewelry.
About my look
I paired my vintage Balmain jacket with very basic pieces like black trousers, real leather boots and almost unnoticeable jewelry. I gave it a twist by wearing a belt over the blazer, giving the outfit a flattering shape, and wearing a baret to let those pieces steal the show. I believe that styling is not about flashing brands, but wearing quality stuff and matching them in the right way.
